While our mission in this industry is to train students across the world on the best practices that help with natural healthy hair services in order to grow our client’s hair and avoid damage, we are still appalled at the experiences some clients continue to receive from unqualified salons and stylist.

Take for instance these two clients we had to attend to recently.

This client, received her service from a well known salon in the City I practice in – had been to this salon to get a Keratin Blow dry service.

The service destroyed her hair by cutting it into patchy parts and there was no other way she could restore her hair back. While this was bad enough, the Salon offered to give her treatments and ended up giving her what they called “egg and oil treatment”. This made the hair worse off. In the end they claimed to give her a track extensions service which became one of the worst attempt at track extensions I have ever seen.

My question is why can’t some people get over their pride and educate or empower themselves with skills they need in order to support their client’s needs? People should be willing to invest in skills that will earn them money.  The Courses that equip you with skills are available every where but most people will rather sit at home and watch youtube to gain skills that they end up charging money for. This is ridiculous and it ends up damaging the reputation of the industry. The example above did not come cheap. This client paid £70 to get her hair ruined and equally kept paying for the subsequent services which did not help give her the image she requested from this Salon.

The second example is this other lady. She paid good money and went into another Salon to get a hair cut. Lo and behold she did get more than she bargained for – it was more like a HAIR CHOP.

Now this to me is beyond understanding. She may have been given a junior stylist who is learning to cut hair but in my training, I will rather my students make mistakes with a mannequin than a paying client who will be traumatised with a wrong experience.  After chopping this client’s hair off, she was left with no other choice but to come to me for hair extensions service.  In the end, she paid money to get her hair chopped off and now has to pay money to get hair extensions service. This is what they call double jeopardy.

Please get into this industry with the best of intentions. Be a source of support to your clients than a source of pain and trauma. Be a Hair Care Practitioner where your Code of Conduct will be caring for your client’s hair and not damaging your client’s hair.

Have you had similar experiences as above with your hairdresser or stylist or as a Stylist, have you had difficult clients who expect more than you can offer? We will be happy to hear from you.
