Stop wasting your life with excuses.

STOP WASTING YOUR LIFE WITH EXCUSES

Are you wasting your life to excuses? This may be true in most cases.

unemployment

unemployment

Do you find you are unemployed and unable to carry on? Are you tired of being unemployed and want to create your own job. Do you find that whenever you want to make a change you find yourself seeking excuses to stop your effort?

Do you find you want to buy or have something and discover you have not got the money to buy it? All you need is to take action to change your life. What could be responsible for your lack of action?  Idling away precious time in life is not the best way to live a successful life.  Time is money some would say and life is too short others will say. Some people however prefer to blame other people for their lack of action that will bring change to their life.  After spending years teaching women skills that help them to set up businesses to change their lives, Joy Phido has experienced unemployment and now in a position to help people review some of the age old excuses that stop progress. Here are some of the excuses people use and the different suggestions Joy offers to solve them.

unemployment

unemployment

1. CHILDREN.  Lots of people tend to hold their children responsible for their inability to progress their life. This is mostly among women. “I have 4 children and they have never stopped my progress in life. In fact I used my children as a motivation to go out and start my business” according to Joy. Avoid dropping to this level of using your children as the excuse for your lack of progress in life. For women with young under-age school going children; for the time your children are in School, you can offer to take on volunteering roles at various charity organisations and gain experience with such jobs and thereafter gain part time employment that will help you into work. On the other hand, you can join Council Adult Education trainings to gain skills, or you can take on private training to gain skills and start working from home. These are various options that can get your life back on track. Your children should not be an excuse to put your life on hold rather a catalyst to move your life farther in life.

2. HUSBAND. My husband does not understand my business idea or support my business idea. “I have a husband and this was my situation years back when I started.” says Joy. I had to follow my dream and carried on with the vision I had in my head. Your husband is not in your head and so does not understand what you are thinking or how the plans you have will work out. You have to follow your dreams and push on till he starts to see what you are talking about. In the end when the idea becomes successful, your husband will be proud of you but if you drop your idea to please him, you will live in constant regret as your dream will never be fulfilled.

3. PARENTS. My parents want to stop my progress. Remember you were born alone into the world and apart from the basic upbringing and education, your parents will not live your life. They do not know what skills you have and what your talent is. You need to stand up for yourself and show your parents that you know what you want in life and seek knowledge in that field. When you get good at what you want, your parents will be proud of you.

4. Race or being Black. Most black people like to hide under the black race as a trumpcard to stop their growth. My solution is you have 2 hands and you have a community. Start selling to your community. You do not have to chase people who do not appreciate you and what you represent. What affects most businesses is knowing who to sell to. If your business is not appreciated by all, target and narrow your market to people who would respect and love what you have to offer. We all have a potential for growth. Do not waste yours.  “When I started my business in hair braiding and extensions, my market was mostly black and today everyone appreciates my skill. I started from somewhere first.” says Joy

Getting rich in business

Getting rich in business

5. MONEY. This is number one excuse for most people. “I would have started my business but I don’t have money.” No one has money to spare. You have to make the money.  Start with the little money you have and show a passion for what you want. You can offer your time free for volunteering to help out with people who do what you do. Gain knowledge and skills to grow in that industry.  Save little money every month, cut out unnecessary expenses and save your money towards what you want.

Other excuses include being too fat, too skinny, too young, unemployed, disable etc etc.

SOLUTION.  Gain a skill in your hands and you can start by working from home while gradually

World of Braiding Home Training programme

growing your experience and confidence. This is what we offer our students at World of Braiding & Extensions Academy. With over 10 million views on our youtube channel and over 80,000 subscribers, we are a force to reckon with while aiming to share knowledge and skill to the world. Join our team and change your  life for the better.

All these excuses should not stop you from living the life of your dreams.  All you need is to stay focused and work towards what you want to be.

Remember life is too short to waste.

“The good thing about your videos is that you are so bold and honest because you know exactly what you are talking about.Besides, you just don’t focus on braiding hair, but also on all the other aspects of it(customer service, what to consider to be successful in the business, natural hair care…)That was just firing me up!
I was getting better everyday and started braiding at home (mid May 2013), all by Faith! I wasn’t professional at all,but was working hard on that!I’m proud of my improvements today and can’t thank you enough for your insightful videos. We haven’t met yet,but I consider you as an African sister who just wants everyone to succeed .I see your business is prosperous and by God’s Grace I’m hoping mine will expand as well. And of course,I hope to work closely with you in order to get there!
By the way ,I just watched the video on tree braids with the Bundle of Joy.That hair looks amazing! And it doesn’t look silky at all,is it? It just makes me  want to use it 🙂
Well, thank you so much for your time ,Joy! Please check my pictures out when you get a chance and your advice would be greatly appreciated.
God richly bless you!

WRONG HAIR EXTENSIONS AND HAIR CHOPS

WRONG HAIR EXTENSIONS AND  HAIR CHOPS – TERRIBLE COMBINATIONS

While our mission in this industry is to train students across the world on the best practices that help with natural healthy hair services in order to grow our client’s hair and avoid damage, we are still appalled at the experiences some clients continue to receive from unqualified salons and stylist.

Take for instance these two clients we had to attend to recently.

This client, received her service from a well known salon in the City I practice in – had been to this salon to get a Keratin Blow dry service.

wrong keratin blow dry

Wrong keratin blow dry

20140115_145248 20140115_145318This treatment did not only blow dry her hair but completely ruined and damaged her hair by turning some parts frizzy while what she wanted was a bone straight hair. The service destroyed her hair by cutting it into patchy parts and there was no other way she could restore her hair back. While this was bad enough, the Salon offered to give her treatments and ended up giving her what they called “egg and oil treatment”. This made the hair worse off. In the end they claimed to give her a track extensions service which became one of the worst attempt at track extensions I have ever seen.

20140115_145114

embarassing hair extensions

embarassing hair extensions

My question is why can’t some people get over their pride and educate or empower themselves with skills they need in order to support their client’s needs? People should be willing to invest in skills that will earn them money.  The Courses that equip you with skills are available every where but most people will rather sit at home and watch youtube to gain skills that they end up charging money for. This is ridiculous and it ends up damaging the reputation of the industry. The example above did not come cheap. This client paid £70 to get her hair ruined and equally kept paying for the subsequent services which did not help give her the image she requested from this Salon.

The second example is this other lady. She paid good money and went into another Salon to get a hair cut. Lo and behold she did get more than she bargained for – it was more like a HAIR CHOP.

Now this to me is beyond understanding. She may have been given a junior stylist who is learning to cut hair but in my training, I will rather my students make mistakes with a mannequin than a paying client who will be traumatised with a wrong experience.  After chopping this client’s hair off, she was left with no other choice but to come to me for hair extensions service.  In the end, she paid money to get her hair chopped off and now has to pay money to get hair extensions service. This is what they call double jeopardy.

Please get into this industry with the best of intentions. Be a source of support to your clients than a source of pain and trauma. Be a Hair Care Practitioner where your Code of Conduct will be caring for your client’s hair and not damaging your client’s hair.

Have you had similar experiences as above with your hairdresser or stylist or as a Stylist, have you had difficult clients who expect more than you can offer? We will be happy to hear from you.

CAUCASIAN HAIR EXTENSIONS GONE WRONG

CAUCASIAN HAIR EXTENSIONS GONE WRONG

HOW NOT TO WEAR OR INSTALL HAIR EXTENSIONS

On this day I had one of my shocking experiences of working with the most damaging glue extensions on Caucasian hair.

My usual day starts and I was in training with students, then the office phone rings at about 11am so I answered.  An extremely traumatised young teenager is on the other end of the phone.  “Can you please help me take out my hair extensions?”  “Of course we can take out hair extensions” I answered back. “What type of extensions is it?” I asked her. She then confirmed that it was glue extensions. So I took it for granted that a glue extensions is normal and can be taken out easily as I teach it and have dealt with all types in my experience of working with extensions.  Afterall, I am an expert here so it will be easy and I gave her an evening appointment as I would be done with training by then.

About 12 midday, a young 16 year old walks into the Centre and introduced herself.  She said she was on break from school so wondered if we could take it out at that time.  It turned out she had tried everything possible and nothing was shifting this extensions with the glue in it.

My Students in training had settled down with their training, so I thought I could get on with it and save myself working late hours.  I then asked her to sit down and we started.

Wow! What a shock and horror when I found out the type of glue extensions I was dealing with. I had never dealt with anything like it in my over 10 years of working with Caucasian hair extensions.  The young girl’s hair had matted and tangled in a ball of mess where the glue had pulled her hair strands together.  I was in such shock it took me some minutes to decide what to do to help.  I had nightmares of not being able to help this young client and asking her to cut her hair.  I recollected my thoughts and got on with it using all the various glue remover products I knew.

I asked my students to have a look and tell me how they could have dealt with similar instance.  Luckily one of the students in training was Caucasian and owned a salon too. She then confirmed to me the type of glue that was used in this extensions.  She had experienced it in her salon hence she has come to train in the right ways of adding extensions.  The type of glue used is called COPYDEX which has nothing to do with hair but lots of rogue hairdressers are cutting corners, watching youtube, applying this glue on young people’s head, charging a lot of money for it and causing so much damage to these ignorant teenagers who simply want long hair.

It took nearly 3 hours to take out this extensions completely; the young girl was visibly traumatised and could not obviously go

20131202_123414 20131203_100349 20131203_100407back to school.

In the end, her hair was saved, thanks to the fact that I am extremely experienced with hair and love it so much to avoid damage where necessary.  I had to give her lots of healthy hair products to help her treat her stressed hair, gave her lots of advice on types of extensions to avoid and the ones that are healthy.

If you wear extensions, please do not wear this type of hair extensions and if you offer the service, please do not offer this to anyone. It is purely inhumane and I will advise clients to sue you for the trauma and stress they go through in experiencing this nightmare.

TIPS TO CHOOSING A HAIR EXTENSIONS STYLIST AND TYPE

  • Do not wear a type because you know someone who is wearing it.
  • Seek good consultation with your stylist and ask a lot of questions on how it will affect your hair.
  • Find out how the extensions will be taken out as it is not just about the beauty of the hair but how healthy and how it will come out too.
  • Find out how it can be maintained and cared for – what are the processes, can you take care of it or do you need frequent appointments etc.
  • Ask your stylist to show you images of work they have done in the past and confirm if this is okay for your hair type.
  • Confirm if your stylist will take it out and have an idea of how much it will cost to take it out.

Joy Phido is a qualified licensed hairdresser /cosmetologist.  She is an internationally established Master Extensions and Natural Hair Educator and Practitioner.  As the Artistic, Creative Master Director at World of Braiding Joy is inspiring women and younger generations to embrace not only natural hairstyles but to get into the Business in order to create wealth for themselves in the hair industry.  Joy is a mother with 4 children and has first-hand experience on how difficult it is to work and run a family especially in the Western world.  After working in corporate Nigeria as a banker and corporate England in telecoms, Joy tried her hands on buy and sell businesses which failed. She eventually realized that to succeed in business; you need to have a skill in your hands first. In addition to her natural passion and skill in hair designing, Joy took series of professional training from across different continents and now has the mission to give students real skill of running a hair Business. As a way of sharing her knowledge and encouraging other women in business, Joy has been active in conducting seminars, workshops, events etc across various continents.  She can be seen on Youtube sharing her knowledge and skill with over 5million views and over 50,000 subscribers. She has written e-books and produces DVDs for sale to help her clients understand the industry better.  This is why World of Braiding has become a success and it is this passion of owning your own skill that motivates Joy in helping people who come to World of Braiding & Extensions for training.

Joy has a BSc in Business Admin, a State Registered Hairdresser (SRH) with UK Hairdressing Council, has over 20 years Natural Hair & Extensions experience.  She is also a qualified teacher, an NLP practitioner and has varied career experiences.

Before setting up World of Braiding & Extensions, Joy started teaching Braiding, Weaving & Extensions with the Newham Council Adult Education Department (Newceys) for 5 years at 4 Centres with some classes as big as 30 students. As the Chief Executive, Trainer and Artistic Director of World of Braiding & Extensions, her passion is to make Natural Hair and Extensions a professionally recognised hair beauty skill that can be practiced by anyone.

Joy’s passion for natural hair is also associated with the fact that she experienced hair damage with chemical relaxers which made her start wearing natural hairstyles thereafter.  She can be seen as a Doctor  for healthy natural hair where all her children wear natural hairstyles.  She is also a Natural Hair & Extensions Business Mentor and adviser helping students & practitioners.

She brings a wealth of knowledge and personal experience to this training to enhance your learning.  World of Braiding & Extensions is constantly exhibiting at Hair events, taking part in major projects and designing hair for fashion shows and events.
